VALLADOLID BECOMES THE NATIONAL CAPITAL OF UNIVERSITY BADMINTON

On May 1 and 2, the Fuente de la Mora sports facilities dressed up again to host one of the most important events of the season in the sport of racket and pen, the 2023 Spanish University Championship. Two days of the highest level badminton would leave us the names of the players who would win the title on this occasion.

The local team would have representation in the five contested modalities, men’s singles (Javier González), women’s singles (Cristina Rivera), men’s doubles (Rodrigo Velázquez and Javier González), women’s doubles (Cristina Rivera and Clara Campos), and mixed doubles ( Rodrigo Velázquez and Clara Campos).

The day on Saturday, in which a great atmosphere stood out and which took place without setbacks, served not only to determine the composition of the finals of the following day, but also to demonstrate the good health that Valladolid badminton enjoys, and that is that the couple formed by Rodrigo Velázquez and Clara Campos got a bronze medal reaching the semifinals, in which they would lose to the brothers Álvaro and Claudia Leal, representatives of the Catholic University of Murcia. In addition, the duo made up of Cristina Rivera and Clara Campos did the same in the women’s doubles modality, losing in the semifinals to Ruth Veiguela and Amaia Torralba, from the University of Oviedo. It is also worth noting the great performance of Javier González and Cristina Rivera, reaching the quarterfinals in the individual modalities.

In the team section, the team from the University of Valladolid was on the verge of the podium by finally qualifying in fourth place. This classification was headed by the Catholic University of Murcia, the great dominator of the weekend, followed by the University of Oviedo, which won silver, and by the Miguel Hernández University, which took bronze.
