This is the distribution of money in the Euroleague this season (1st part): clubs with an A license get a minimum of 1.5 million extra; Valencia Basket and Partizan paid 500,000 euros to be invited

The Euroleague distributes 42.5 million euros this season among the 18 participating teams, although with criteria that make the figures for each other very different. Thus, from the outset, each team with an A license (there are 13) has insured a minimum of 1.5 million that the four that do not have it do not receive, according to the official Euroleague documentation in our possession.

It is something that can be understood from the logic of those who have been members of the competition since it was founded in the year 2000, but also paradoxical because several clubs were later admitted as ‘licensed teams’ and others were invited for two years ( Alba Berlin) or by one, usually the winner of the Eurocup.

This is stated in the official dossier that the Euroleague sent to the 18 clubs when it decided last June in an assembly to invite Valencia Basket and Partizan instead of two suspended Russian teams, CSKA and Zenit.

According to this dossier, both Partizan and Valencia paid 500,000 euros each for that invitation, which are distributed among the 18. How the ‘contribution’ made by Asvel Villeurbanne and Bayern Munich is distributed, who pay 750,000 euros each later to receive a license for ten years and others in 2021.

Likewise, there is a bulk of 40 million to distribute for sponsorships and television contracts around the world to broadcast the Euroleague, although almost all of it is a figure that comes from TVs and platforms on the European continent, they clarify.

The 18 participating teams this season receive a minimum of 500,000 euros. But only 13 enter the bulk of the television money variable, as seen in this image, since it remains for the licensed teams, which are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Baskonia, Panathinaikos, Olympiakos, Fenerbahçe, Efes, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Zalgiris , Olimpia Milano, Bayern Munich and Asvel. The curious thing is that CSKA is not mentioned in this dossier, which has a license but is a club separated by the war.

In addition, we can see in the rules established for the distribution that 8.8 million are distributed by the final classification, that is, by sporting merit, and 33.7 by television rights.

The total number of the market pool can vary upwards as new contracts arrive or some with better amounts are renewed, so what is foreseeable is that the 18 teams will have a higher number to distribute instead of that minimum of 42.5 million that they were given. guaranteed last June. In 2021, 27.5 were distributed instead of the 35 budgeted for the crisis caused by the pandemic, so the income and figures to be distributed have risen a lot.
