WC IN HOCKEY: Budíček in the third period, the Czechs beat the Slovenians. The Slovaks broke the Swiss spell, but lost

It should have been a clear matter, but instead the first third of the match between the Czech hockey players and Slovenia turned into a horror. Verlič and Urbas made sure that the outsider took a surprising 2-0 lead. Those who expected the onslaught of Kari Jalonen’s men in the middle section were soon led astray. The Slovenian hockey players created a number of promising chances and only thanks to the interventions of Karel Vejmelka they did not increase the lead.

It wasn’t until the 39th minute that Kubalík, who used the power play, gave hope to the struggling team. The Detroit striker’s goal started a great Czech drive in the final part. First, Kubalík equalized again so that Červenka and Kempný definitively turned the course of the match to the Czech side. In the end, Kubalík completed the hat trick with a goal into an empty net, Flek closed the score at 6:2.

In the evening, the Swiss successfully strove to move to the top of the group B table, which, regardless of the lower quality of their opponents so far, was decorated with unique statistics. They scored fifteen goals in three games, kept three clean sheets at the back and allowed only 31 shots to the opponents.

In the duel, however, the Slovaks already cashed in. Christian Marti then scored the winning goal in the 47th minute.
