Kinshasa, 08 mai 2023 (ACP).- The Congolese National Judo Federation (FENACOJU) is absent from the “Qatar 2023” world judo championship, organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF) from May 7 to 14, 2023, whose hostilities opened on Sunday in Doha, deplored Monday, the coordinator of this discipline in the DRC, Me Nicolas Lianza in an interview with the ACP.
“No athlete has been qualified or even no Congolese judoka has been able to snatch the qualification to fight in this world championship”, regretted Me Lianza, stressing that the non-participation of Congolese athletes is not synonymous with a lack of judokas capable of facing others aligned to this championship.
The IJF, he added, has taken the option of lining up in this championship only the 100 athletes who have passed the test to prevail and in the various opens organized across the member countries of the international supreme body of judo.
“FENACOJU has not given up, we continue to work hard so that in the coming days, our athletes can fight in international competitions,” said the national coordinator of Judo in the DRC, adding that strategies are being to be fine-tuned to involve our judokas in these kinds of competitions.
It is in this context, he recalled, that the participation of Congolese judokas in the Luanda Open was included in the series of strategies to promote our athletes, in order to allow them to be classified at the level on an international scale, emphasizing that in these opens, the objective would be to win medals.
