the drama of an 18-year-old in the Bahamas

He dived from nave, for fun. And he never resurfaced. An 18-year-old boy from Louisiana was celebrating his recent high school graduation during a cruise at sunset at Bahamas Wednesday when he reportedly disappeared into the sea: a large-scale search had been underway for days but to no avail. Cameron Robbins, who graduated from the University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge on Sunday, was traveling in the Bahamas with students from several local high schools, at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort in Nassau. Just four hours after their arrival Wednesday night, Robbins and his friends went on a cruise. According to witnesses, around 21:40, the 18-year-old – who according to his friends was having a challenge – dived from the boat into the ocean near the island of Athol.

Robbins was last seen swimming in the dark waters a few feet from the boat, before disappearing into thin air. The vessel, designed to look like a pirate ship, remained in the area for several hours as crew members tried to find the teenager. The Royal Bahamas Defense Force, assisted by the US Coast Guard Southeast, has also searched for the missing 18-year-old by helicopter, but so far without success. University Lab School director Kevin George said Robbins attended the school for all 13 years of his education and was a «school baseball player».

The principal released a statement on behalf of the school, everyone “they pray for him. I have been in contact with Cameron’s family and at this time authorities are still looking for him in the Bahamas. In times like these, we need to come together and support each other. Words fail to express the concern our entire school community is feeling». Robbins’ parents arrived in the Bahamas on Thursday, when a prayer vigil was held at their son’s resort.
