Superleague, Sir Safety Susa presents Angelo Lorenzetti: “I want an attacking team”

An almost messianic welcome. As Angelo Lorenzetti, fresh winner of the scudetto in Trento, made his first acquaintance with his new reality, which will certainly not be like many others. The new coach of Sir Safety Susa Perugia, linked to it by a two-year contract unlike his predecessor, was awaited by at least a hundred people who packed the Best Western Quattrotorri Hotel in Ellera di Corciano, the venue designated for his presentation (the PalaBarton, occupied by a national Judo meeting, was not usable), with the hope of snatching a photo, an autograph or a simple chat with what many hope will be the man of the definitive turning point.

The coach from Fano has already won four championships (two with Modena, one with Piacenza and one with Trento) so he is an expert in the sector: he will therefore go hunting for the fifth right in Umbria and will have at least two years to do it. The premises seem good given that the team, with the exception of the Polish Tunisian opposite Ben Tara, is the same as last year, but above all it is the one that dominated the scene before giving away clearly from the Italian Cup onwards for reasons that many do not they still managed to understand.

The emotion was all in his face: “I’m happy and grateful for this opportunity. I didn’t expect such a welcome. If the relationship between the team and the fans is contagious and emotional, it means it’s a good start.”

On Sir seen from the outside: “It’s a company that has also moved quite quickly. In volleyball it’s not easy to do it because sometimes you fall. It’s easier to complain and stay down. The results, even at the expense of the team I coached, are arrived. I have always had certificates of esteem for it”.

On the roster: “What characteristics should she have? I’d like to see her devoted to attack. I leave enough freedom and there are some difficulties at the beginning. Then when you take the path, it becomes discreet. net and take advantage of the characteristics of our hitters. Then we hug each other to get ready for the next point”. On the players: “It’s true that I know many of them, but I can say that I spent five very engaging years with Giannelli. I was struggling to position him as an opponent. I find him having done some feats but I have to get him back on the road to get to know him. The relationship between the coach and setter it’s important”.

What championship will it be? “Ultra-competitive. Balance is finally king. It’s a championship that starts today, words fly by and we have to use them well. We have to battle ball by ball. Then one thing shouldn’t be forgotten: the strong team isn’t the one that doesn’t enter never in crisis but the one who gets out of it as fast as possible”.

Last year started well and ended badly. What are the possible reasons? “Despite the good work you do in the gym and your confidence, you have to win every game and sometimes moments happen in sport that you don’t even expect. Sometimes it’s hard to recover positivity, the opponents understand this and take countermeasures. I think this can I’ve seen a lot.”

Turnover, a delicate issue: “Nowadays this is an important issue. Players can be rested, but it’s a point of view that doesn’t really belong to me; or have a player ready in case a starter might experience difficulties. As soon as I have the team I will declare the starters, then during the year if there are any problems I will do it again”.

It is known that the new Juventus coach gives something more to the players. What’s the secret? “It’s difficult to put certain labels. The boys from Trento gave me the fact that I’m the last winning coach. Then ball in the center and 0-0. It must be said, however, that the clubs have made good teams available to me. Sir is out of Europe after nine years: “We are in a pre-Olympic season. The clubs make many sacrifices and it is a particular championship. Playing is important because some teams have improved despite their commitments. Training will be even more central” .

Finally, Leon chapter: “It’s a very important topic that involves many aspects. Disappointment is linked to a promise. I can promise commitment but not to win. His numbers were good, then it’s thought he should do much more but it is no longer the time for these players here. Like everyone, however, he will have to study volleyball”.

The event was also attended by the president Gino Sirci, who wanted to reassure that, despite the tough task that awaits his team, “no stone will be left unturned.
