The DP World Tour threatens Sergio García

The DP World Tour has threatened Sergio García with “take appropriate measures” after he failed to pay a $126,000 fine within 30 days imposed by a sports arbitration panel for playing in a LIV Golf event.

The DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour, won its legal battle last month to be able to suspend and fine LIV Golf players who competed in contentious events without permission.

17 players, including Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood, were fined $126,000 each.a penalty imposed in July 2022 and upheld last month by an independent UK-based panel of sports rulings.

The DP World Tour confirmed today that 16 of the 17 players have paid their fines which were imposed for serious breaches of the Tour’s Conflicting Tournament Regulations last June,” the DP World Tour said in a statement on Thursday.

Sergio Garcia has not paid his £100,000 fine, nor has he given any indication that he intends to. Therefore, we will take appropriate measures if he continues to disrespect the decision of the Sports Resolutions panel,” the statement said.

The circuit added that next week it will announce new sanctions for players who break the rules.

Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion, along with Poulter, Westwood and Richard Bland relinquished their DP World Tour memberships on Wednesday, making them ineligible for this year’s Ryder Cup.
