With the arrival of Kyrie Irving mid-season, their objective was simple: surround Luka Doncic to seek the title. In big trouble, the Mavericks did not even know how to qualify for the Play-in Tournament, thus shocking the NBA planet. The first rumors about an early departure from Kyrie have quickly surfaced, but it is rather the future of Slovenian genius that raises questions.
The huge transfer that could see the light of day for Luka
Generational talent, Doncic could be annoyed by Dallas’ lack of results since joining the franchise. Obviously, if he were to demand a departure, several franchises would position themselves on him, as his talent is unanimous in the league. Andy Bailey therefore had fun determining what would be the best destination for Luka in the columns of Bleacher Reportdrawing up a first postulate:
The teams with the best chance of recovering Doncic are the ones with a lot of assets to send to Dallas. Being a big market also makes it easier and right now there’s only one team that ticks both of those boxes.
According to Bailey, the only franchise that would fully meet the criteria cited above would be none other than the Knicks. What to imagine a huge exchange:
The New York Knicks have a shovelful of draft picks. And even though RJ Barrett’s market value has fallen this year, Immanuel Quickley’s has risen well and the Knicks could try to bring Luka Doncic back into the biggest media market through an offer similar to the one they had transmitted to the Jazz in an attempt to snatch Donovan Mitchell.
The Knicks can therefore offer several draft picks, Barrett, Quickley and Quentin Grimes to Dallas. In New York, Doncic would also find the second option with whom he went to the conference finals: Jalen Brunson. He would also have a dynamic circle protector in the person of Mitchell Robison, assuming he is not involved in the trade.
