TOPS

The big blow of Stade Brestois for the maintenance

The Brest players (Le Douaron and Chardonnet) recalled it after the meeting, “we are not maintained, but we have taken a first step towards maintaining“. Yes, Brest achieved the big hit of the evening, but even more, of the 33rd day of Ligue 1 at the bottom of the classification. The Bretons who were 17th and therefore first relegated before the meeting, got up from this ejection seat to seat the Nantes people there. There are six games left before the end and Brest breathe with a victory against a direct competitor which allows them to look at the red zone from further away, from 14th place.

A serious and involved collective

If Brest made the task easier, it was thanks to a well-oiled collective and a realism that made the difference by finally taking shelter from the break. In the aggressiveness and the desire, we felt a team which was fighting for its survival and it is a mentality which could well save the Bretons at the end of the season. The second goal, that of Mathias Pereira Lage is the perfect illustration of this with an admirable change of game from Steve Mounié for Kenny Lala who waited to find a partner in the area and what he did well by depositing the ball on the head of Pereira Lage, who only had to extend the ball into the small net of Alban Lafont. A magnificent goal built collectively from start to finish.

Nantes plunges even further into the crisis

The Canaries had the opportunity to redeem themselves from the defeat in the Coupe de France final against Toulouse (1-5) by doing a good job in the fight for maintenance. But this is not the case, result of the races, Nantes complicates the end of the season and will have to whip until the last minute. We felt this Wednesday evening a team that did not want as much as its opponent. Antoine Kombouaré’s players only played intermittently in the game and still looked stunned by last Saturday’s defeat at the Stade de France.

Alban Lafont and the mistake that changes everything

One of the gestures that we will necessarily remember is the blunder of Alban Lafont who launched the debates for a team from Brest who did not ask for so much. After a clearance from the Brest defense in his area, Lafont completely missed his clearance allowing Le Douaron who was watching, to adjust in the empty goal for the opener. An error which alone did not cost the defeat of his team but which largely contributed to it.
