The sporting director of Basketball Girona, Jordi Plà, detailed this morning that there are six players from this season’s squad under contract for next season, albeit with several clauses. At the entrance Quino Colom i Kameron Taylor they signed up for one more course with an exit option that would only apply if they activated it themselves, paying a clause. They also have a contract Jaume Sorolla, Pol Figueras, Roko Prkacin and Pato Garino, although in this case, the cut option is double, both for the club and for the players, so its continuity is not guaranteed either. Plà has also made it clear that despite the rest of the team ending their association (Vila, Fjellerup, Gasol, Hill, Jenkins, Miletic and Hanzlík, who was on loan from Baskonia), there are some who have options to extend the contract. “We have the idea of what we want to do, but we won’t say it yet because the players don’t know it,” he stressed. And in this sense, he said that the uncertainty about what Marc Gasol will decide about his future “is secondary” and does not influence when making the next squad, which will try to be “competitive” and with players who want to progress.
On the bench, Jordi Plà has assured that no decision has been taken. According to the sports director, both the club and Aíto have taken a few days to finish assessing the season and finally decide “if for whatever reasons we continue together or each one follows his own path”. Although Plà has said that “there is no indication” in either direction, for now the veteran coach seems more outside than inside the club. The ACB league for the 2023/24 season will start on September 23-24 and, therefore, the pre-season for Girona will open around August 15.
