On the Forbes list, the Swiss ranks ninth among the best-paid athletes of the past year. With his many long-term partners, he will probably be able to keep up with his active athlete colleagues in the ranking for some time to come.

In September 2022, Federer said goodbye to the professional tour at the Laver Cup, which he co-founded. He played his last doubles there as a professional alongside Rafael Nadal. However, the list of his sponsoring partners is still long and will even get longer after his career. He has signed a licensing deal with eyewear manufacturer Oliver Peoples for his RF brand and holds a significant stake in fast-growing Swiss footwear company On.

Soccer players are at the top of Forbes

The 41-year-old had $95 million in advertising revenue this year, up $5 million from last year. Its sponsors include brands such as Barilla, Credit Suisse Group (ADS), JURA, Lindt & Sprüngli, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Mercedes-Benz, NetJets, On, RIMOWA, Rolex, Sunrise Communications AG, Switzerland Tourism, Uniqlo and Wilson Sporting Goods. Federer’s total earnings for 2023 are estimated at $95.1 million, with just $0.1 million coming from the prize money he earned at the Laver Cup.

Just a few years ago, the maestro would have been the best-paid athlete in the world with his income. For example, in 2017, Cristiano Ronaldo topped the rankings with $93 million.

The list of last year’s highest-paid athletes is topped by soccer superstars Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. As the first non-soccer player, basketball superstar LeBron James follows in fourth place.
