Jesse Marsch Named Head Coach of Canadian Men’s National Soccer Team

Canada Soccer said Marsch, who previously served as head coach for Leeds United, RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls and Montreal Impact (now CF Montreal), was taking over immediately. with a contract lasting until July 2026.

Marsch, who becomes the 20th head coach of the Canadian men’s team, has a record of 170-103-66 as an instructor, according to Canada Soccer.

“Jesse is a leader who will advance our men’s national team – and Canadian soccer in general – as we enter the most important period in our sport’s national history,” said Kevin Blue, president and CEO and Secretary General of Canada Soccer, in a press release.

Canada Soccer said Marsch’s hiring was “aided by significant philanthropic contributions” from the owners of Canada’s three MLS clubs, Vancouver Whitecaps, CF Montreal, Toronto FC, and other donors.

The Canadian team players still did not have a new coach since the departure of John Herdman in August, who joined Toronto FC.

Assistant coach Mauro Biello had been acting as interim head coach since that time. He was a candidate for the regular position as well.

Canada’s squad went 2-2-0 with Biello.

Marsch led the Impact to a 12-16-6 record in 2012, but left by mutual agreement after the expansion club’s inaugural season.

He also played in midfield for 14 seasons with DC United, Chicago Fire and Chivas USA, from 1996 to 2009.
