Stan Wawrinka qualified for the second round at 38, after five sets of struggle

The Swiss winner Porte d’Auteuil in 2015 defeated the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in five sets: 7-6 (7/5), 6-4, 6-7 (7/2), 1-6 , 6-4.

The eternal Stan Wawrinka joins the second round of Roland-Garros at the age of 38, after a fight of four hours and thirty-five minutes against the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas (35 years old) 7-6 (7/5), 6-4, 6-7(7/2), 1-6, 6-4. He will be opposed in the next round to the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, ranked 108th player in the world.

The winner of the 2015 edition did not crack in this duel of experienced players on court n°14, even after being pushed into the fifth set, he who was nevertheless leading two sets to nothing. More fear than harm in the end, against another Spanish clay court specialist.

Former world No.3, three-time Grand Slam winner, Wawrinka is trying to regain his best level after two seasons marred by injuries. After his elimination in the second round of the Australian Open in 2021, he had missed the next four Majors.
