Sergio Garcia, the only bad payer, in the sights of the DP World Tour

Sergio Garcia is the only golfer who defected to the DP World Tour to go on the LIV Golf in 2022 to not have paid his fine of 100,000 pounds sterling (about 114,000 euros) years a deadline required by the court, has announced the DP World Tour on Thursday.

Sports Resolutions, a UK-based independent panel, ruled in an arbitration case last month that the DP World Tour could fine and suspend players who participated in disputed tournaments. 17 players are in this case, they participated in the inaugural event of LIV Golf in June 2022 in London, without permission.

Grave violation

The DP World Tour called their participation a serious violation of its exemptions and code of conduct regulations. After a group of players appealed and won an injunction to play at the Genesis Scottish Open, the legal battle went to a UK arbitration panel in February. The DP World Tour won the case in April.

The DP World Tour had announced on Wednesday that Garcia, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Richard Bland had resigned from their European Tour memberships, making them ineligible to play in the Ryder Cup. On Thursday, the European Tour said 16 players had paid the fine: Poulter, Westwood, Bland, Laurie Canter, Branden Grace, Justin Harding, Sam Horsfield, Martin Kaymer, Pablo Larrazabal, Graeme McDowell, Shaun Norris, Wade Ormsby, Adrian Otaegui, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel and Bernd Wiesberger.

Details of additional penalties for players who violated contention tournament rules by playing in subsequent contention events without release will be announced next week.
