Just like Jan Bakelants, Sep Vanmarcke took part in the first edition of the Gravel Fondo Limburg yesterday, a gravel race in and around Valkenburg that counts for the UCI Gravel World Series.
Our compatriot Timo Kielich took the win.
Vanmarcke fared less well. The cobble specialist fell and sustained a fracture to his left wrist.
“Sep, meanwhile, has successfully undergone surgery to stabilize the fracture. He is now starting his rehabilitation,” reports his Israel-Premier Tech team. “His return to competition is expected in mid-June.”
A setback for Vanmarcke, who was finally spared from heavy falls during the classics.
It ensured that Vanmarcke blossomed again this spring with places of honor in Gent-Wevelgem (3rd) and Nokere Koerse (6th).
