After months of speculation as to what the RTL commentary team for NFL broadcasts could look like in the coming years, there is now certainty. At an official press conference, which NFL fans in German-speaking countries could follow via live stream on sport.de (May 26, 11:00 a.m.), the private broadcaster revealed the secret of the on-air team for the upcoming season. In addition to the names already confirmed, more faces have been confirmed for the on-air roles. The complete list looks like this:

  • Alex von Kuczkowski (podcaster, founder of “Footballerei”)
  • Bjorn Werner (former NFL pro, Indianapolis Colts)
  • Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld (commentator)
  • Frank Buschmann (commentator and moderator)
  • Jan connector (moderator and ex-GFL professional)
  • Jana Wosnitza (Moderatorin)
  • Markus Kuhn (former NFL pro, New York Giants and New England Patriots)
  • Mitja Lafere (presenter, actor and DJ)
  • Mona Stevens (Captain of the German women’s flag football team)
  • Nadine Nurasyid (Head Coach Munich Cowboys)
  • Patrick Esume (ELF Commissioner, Commentator and Moderator)
  • Sebastian Vollmer (former NFL pro, New England Patriots)

While names such as Vollmer, Kuhn or Stecker were already clear, the names of Frank Buschmann, Björn Werner and Patrick Esume are particularly surprising.

After more than ten years in which ProSiebenSat.1 held the TV rights to the world’s largest sports league, the RTL Group secured the NFL TV and audio rights for the next five seasons, starting with the 2023/2024 season the German-speaking area. According to the broadcaster, around 80 live broadcasts are planned per season, which will be shown on the free channels RTL and Nitro as well as on the paid Internet service RTL+. There will be up to three live games per week on free-to-air television and an exclusive game on RTL+. In addition, there will be audio formats, watch parties, other events, children’s programs on Super RTL (“TOGGO Touchdown”) and print offers.
