At the start of the double match day on Ascension Day weekend in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga, the Guggenberger Legionnaires Regensburg defeated the Mannheim Tornados 7-0 on Wednesday evening. Strong pitching and runs in the second, third and sixth inning laid the foundation for the success of the Upper Palatinate.

Regensburg scored the first run of the game through Daniel Patrice after a bases-loaded walk by Alexander Schmidt in the second half of the game. One round later, the legionnaires made the preliminary decision with four runs. RBI singles from Eric Harms, Patrice and David Dinski and a wild pitch put the score at 5-0. An RBI double by ex-Mannheimer Marius Wolf and an error made runs number six and seven in the sixth inning.

Best player on Wednesday night was Eric Harms, who had three hits and a walk in five plate appearances. He scored two runs himself and the outfielder hit another one home. Daniel Patrice also scored twice. Merlin Bendlin recorded two hits at Mannheim.

On the mound, Joe Cedano De Leon convinced as the starting pitcher for Regensburg. In six innings, he allowed just four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Daniel Mendelsohn then completed the shutout.

On the other side, Bernini Engelhardt conceded the loss after a little more than two innings, in which he gave up five hits, five runs (4 ER) and three base on balls. Tom Adler then kept the damage within limits from a tornado point of view. At the end of the game, however, nothing changed.
