The Pro Core Project, which starts at the beginning of the season and has the main objective of working with potential talents to join the main refereeing category, ended this week with very positive results. The initiative was led by David Elleray, technical director of the International Football Association Board and collaborator of the FPF Referees Council.

To the official bodies of the Portuguese Football Federation, Fontelas Gomes, president of the Arbitration Commission, praised the project.

“This is yet another investment by the FPF and its Arbitration Council in the area of training and the objective of this intense work and this personalized follow-up is intended to accelerate its growth process, so that we will soon have even more and better referees in the main categories. Over the past six years, the Arbitration Council has been increasing training hours, as well as personalized work in specific categories, such as this one. It is a privilege for us to have the collaboration of one of the best instructors in the world in the area of training, as is the case of David Elleray, as well as the elements that make up this project”, he stressed.

David Elleray, on the other hand, was satisfied with the way the project was developed. “I cannot fail to point out the excellent progress that all the referees have made on and off the field of play. Thanks to this project they have considerably improved their skills as well as their ‘understanding of football’, which means they are better prepared for the challenges of football at the highest level. I am very impressed with everyone’s professionalism and their openness to self-analysis and self-criticism, showing a great willingness to learn and improve”, he stressed.
