The Fandjudo judokas came close to adding a medal in the individual competitions of the Small States Games, but Lia Povedano, Marc Reig and Joël Rossell ended up falling in the fight for bronze, and they could not increase the sum of medals of the tricolor delegation.
In the competition of less than 81 kilos, Rossell fell against the Cypriot Petros Kesov, but in the repechage he was able to prevail against the Luxembourger Bilgee Bayanaa. In the decisive bout for bronze, however, he could not overcome the Cypriot fighter Odysseas Georgakis, who ended up winning with a waza-ari and an ippon.
Marc Reig also came within touching distance of the bronze medal, but was beaten by Luxembourg’s Claudio Nunes. Lastly, Lia Povedano could not make it to the finals either, and also fell in the fight for bronze in the repechage.
Judo rests today, and tomorrow it will close the participation in the Games of the Small States of Malta 2023 with the dispute of the men’s team competition with Joël Rossell and Marc Reig.
