Sedlák, a native of České Budějovice, started the year as a Colorado player. He played only three games for the Avalanche, after mid-October Philadelphia reached out to him. In the Flyers jersey, he managed 27 starts, three goals and five assists. Since arriving in Pardubice in mid-December, he has averaged more than a point per game. In the regular season, he played in 24 games and scored 27 points (15+12), added five goals and three assists in 10 elimination battles.
On the throne for the best player of the domestic top league, Sedlák replaced another forward, Filip Chlapík, who played last season in Switzerland. “It means a lot to me, I really appreciate the award. It’s such a satisfaction for me for the whole season. Extraliga is a high-quality competition and it’s not easy at all to advance in it,” said Sedlák on the podium after the announcement.
Representatives of the champion Třinec took home four individual prizes from today’s gala evening in Brno. Zdeněk Moták was declared the best coach of the past season. The Steelers’ head coach won the ČTK award.
“Even though hockey is a team sport, it’s definitely nice when you get some individual awards. It probably strokes the ego a bit. But I’ve been through quite a lot in my life, so I’m quite experienced and I can react to it. I think , that I won’t screw up. Or I hope so… No, more precisely – I know that I won’t screw up,” the 58-year-old Moták told ČTK.
Aleš Stezka from Víkovice, who is heading to the NHL, where he signed a one-year contract with Seattle, was declared the best goalkeeper. “I am slowly finding out some information to be ready. We are currently working on plans for the summer and what will happen next. It is a new challenge and I am looking forward to it,” said Stezka.
The Václav Pacina Award for the best player in the playoffs was won by Třinec striker Daniel Voženílek, who shined during the Steelers’ journey to their fourth title in a row. “I started to work more and that’s what sports is all about. The engagement in Finland also helped me and I’m glad that I managed to follow up on it here as well,” Voženílek said. “And that’s why I moved. The way I looked at it, we’ve had that price on the street for the fifth year,” Voženílek added with a smile.
The award for dedication to hockey, which is awarded by the O2 TVSport station, was won by forward Daniel Přibyl, who defended the colors of Sparta and Mladá Boleslav during the season. Eighteen-year-old talented forward Eduard Šalé from Brno was declared the best newcomer, and Latvian representative Uvis Janis Balinskis from Liberec was named the best defender. The most productive defender of the last season of the extra league is heading to the NHL – he signed a rookie contract with Florida in mid-April.
Brno Komet goalkeeper Dominik Furch received two awards – the award for the best player of the match and also for the best action in the Golden Helmet competition. The audience voted Furch’s save against Mladá Boleslav’s Ondřej Romanov in the play-off preliminary round match as the best action.
The winner of the Radegast index was defender Richard Nedomlel, who started the year in Hradec Králové and then moved to Liberec. Antonín Jeřábek was awarded as the best referee. At the end of the evening, the Steelers symbolically took over the Masaryk Cup for the playoff winners.
