Novak Djokovic joins the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters 1000

It was a classic day at the office for Novak Djokovic. Without wanting to disrespect Cameron Norrie (13th, but only one set taken from Djokovic in three confrontations), the Briton is still far from the standards necessary to hope for a victory over the one who will still be world No. 1 until the end of the tournament. If we add to that the unfavorable conditions, with heavy clay and a background of very fresh air, it was too much.

Solid without being brilliant, Djokovic broke quickly in the first set to lead 2-0. An advantage that he was going to keep until winning this first set of a match without great intensity.

We had to wait for a smash from Norrie involuntarily sent into the feet of Djokovic who, back to the net, had lost interest in the end of the point, to feel a little tension rising. Despite Norrie’s apologies, Djokovic’s glare hinted at how unappreciative he had been of the incident.

After an exchange of breaks, the Serb made the effort to once again take the service of the Briton and offered himself the possibility of closing the match on his serve. He did not hesitate. Here he is in the quarter-finals where he is waiting to know who from Holger Rune or Alex Popyrin will join him there.
