The Finnish winter sports metropolis of Lahti is the only candidate to host the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2029. This was announced by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation Fis on Wednesday after the application deadline. This means that the award in June 2024 is only a matter of form. For Lahti it would be the eighth World Cup, the title fights only took place there in 2017. Narvik (Norway), Soldeu (Andorra) and Val Gardena (Italy) have applied for the Alpine World Championships in 2029. Garmisch-Partenkirchen had previously applied in vain for the alpine title fights in 2025 (in Saalbach-Hinterglemm/Austria) and 2027 (Crans-Montana/Switzerland). For the Ski Flying World Championships 2028, only Planica in Slovenia is scheduled to compete.
