Rafael Nadal’s recovery is not going as he had hoped himself. The Spaniard recently confirmed this personally in a statement from his home in Mallorca.
Now Andrea Petkovic has commented on Nadal’s return. “Petko” sees age as the main reason for his long break: “As spectacular as he is, his body is no longer that of a 25-year-old,” said the Darmstadt native in an interview with the Tennis Channel.
Die Deutscher continued: “What really comes into play with him is his age. Unfortunately it is due to age. at that age it takes so much longer to recover from an injury that we originally thought would take six to eight weeks. Now it just got longer and longer.”
Despite the slow recovery and his lack of match practice, Petkovic is confident that Nadal can reach a really good level when he finds himself on the Roland Garros red clay. Petkovic even goes so far as to name Rafael Nadal as the favorite for the event: “He’s still the best on clay and when he shows up at Roland Garros he’s still the favorite to win.”
