The Green Bay Packers have lost quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, but their hometown looks destined for a consolation prize: the 2025 NFL Draft.
At the league’s annual meeting in March, NFL executive Peter O’Reilly told reporters the host is expected to be announced at the next owners’ meeting, which will take place in Minnesota on May 22. The Packers have long been a favorite to clinch the 2025 event. Team President Mark Murphy said in July of last year that Green Bay would “probably” host the 2025 or 2027 Draft.
The Packers submitted an offer, in partnership with “Discover Green Bay”, with an expected cost of $7,000,000.00. A team spokesperson said the team will disburse US$1,000,000 from its funds.
With a population of just 108,000, the Wisconsin city is the NFL’s smallest market – but the league can also accommodate press and spectators in Milwaukee, a two-hour drive away.
In March, the “Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District” passed a measure paving the way for 50% ticket taxes for non-Packers-related events at Lambeau Field through 2027 to host the draft.
The league’s main off-season event became a “traveling circus”, providing economic benefits to the ‘host city’. Held in New York City from 1964 to 2014, the NFL Draft has been to:

- Philadelphia
- Dallas
- Nashville
- Cleveland
- Las Vegas
- Kansas City
The 2024 Draft is scheduled to take place in Detroit.
The NFL Draft turned into a grand, three-day party extravaganza in 2010, with the first round starting at 9 pm on Thursday night and the second and third rounds at 8 pm ET on Friday night. The final four rounds taking place on Saturday.
This year’s first-round TV viewership was the third-highest ever, averaging 11.4 million viewers across TV and streaming.
An 11% increase over last year.
