Nets won’t let Mikal Bridges go to Blazers

A few days ago, we learned that the Blazers were ready to potentially drop Anfernee Simons and their 3rd choice in the 2023 Draft to recover an “elite” winger. Quickly, the name of Mikal Bridges arrived in the rumors, but Brooklyn does not want to let go of him for such a package.

As we know, Damian Lillard and Mikal Bridges are close, they who were seen dancing together on a TikTok video just a month ago. Dame was also seen in the front row at Barclays Center in a Nets–Sixers series encounter in the first round of the Playoffs. But if the two want to play together soon, it will be in Brooklyn and not in Portland because the Nets have no intention of parting ways with Mikal. At least not in exchange for the Blazers’ offer.

According to Alex Schiffer The Athleticthe Nets are actually not interested in a potential package Anfernee Simons (or Shaedon Sharpe) + 3rd choice of the Draft 2023. To hope to move Mikal to Oregon, the Blazers will have to put a lot of elements on the table, which makes sense given Bridges’ rise in recent months.

Arrived from Phoenix during the trade deadline as part of the XXL transfer of Kevin Durant, Mikal Bridges immediately took advantage of this change of scene to show his star potential: 26.1 points and 4.5 rebounds at 47.5% in shooting including 37.6% in 3-pointers and 89.4% in free throws. These are clearly All-Star numbers for one who was once considered a mere defensive specialist. The progression he’s shown at the Suns in recent years and his tremendous showings in Brooklyn since then make Bridges one of the highest-rated wingers in the NBA today, so why would the Nets want to part with him knowing that only 26 years old?

Certainly, Brooklyn is a changing franchise today, she who decided to end this season the championship project started in the summer of 2019 around Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. But Mikal is talented enough to represent the new era of basketball in this corner of New York, and already seems to be unanimous there.

Anfernee Simons and a high draft pick aren’t going to change that…
