Mourinho Not Afraid of Sevilla’s Slick Record in the Europa League Final

Sevilla does have a slick record when competing in the Europa League Final. However, AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho is not at all worried about that.

The 2022/2023 Europa League final will bring Sevilla vs AS Roma together which will be held at the Puskas Arena, Thursday (1/6/2023) early morning WIB tomorrow. This is an opportunity for both teams to win a trophy to pay for their poor performance in the league.

Apart from that, Sevilla and Roma both maintain the pride of their respective leagues, which arguably the quality is currently still below the Premier League.

This is the 14th time that an Italian team and a Spanish team have met in a European competition final. Representatives of Spain are still ahead with nine wins to four.

At the last meeting in the 2019/2020 Europa League, Sevilla even beat Inter Milan with a score of 2-1, while maintaining a perfect record in the final.

Because Sevilla has always won the six finals it has passed. The opponents are not just any team, including Liverpool (2015) who have nine titles in Europe.

Naturally, if Roma are not seeded in this final and Sevilla is predicted to be able to win their seventh trophy in the Europa League.

Seville’s history in this competition certainly cannot be compared to Rome, which has only appeared in the final five times. However, Mourinho is not bothered and feels Sevilla’s history means nothing.

“I want to say that history doesn’t mean anything, maybe my opponents think differently. They feel they are favorites because history says so, we respect that. But, we deserve to be in the final,” said Jose Mourinho on Italian Football.

“For them it’s normal to play in a final, for us it’s an extraordinary match. For Sevilla fans, a European final is like playing in Spain, for us it’s something historic.”
