MLB: Fan fall delays Red Sox v. Phillies

PHILADELPHIA — A spectator fell over a protective barrier in the Red Sox bullpen Friday night during the first inning of the game between Boston and the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

No immediate update was made on the condition of the supporter, who was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital after his heavy fall.

Red Sox second hitter Masataka Yoshida was at bat against Phillies starter Zack Wheeler when Philadelphia reliever Jose Alvarado ran from the bullpen to the outfield for help. Medical personnel rushed to the scene to help the fan, who was wearing a Phillies jersey.

The spectator was attached to a stretcher, then placed on a stretcher and evacuated by cart. He was conscious when he left the field.

NBC Sports Philadelphia reports that the spectator fell while trying to recover a ball that had been thrown at the supporters. He landed in a flowerbed at the base of the railing.

The match resumed after a ten-minute break.
