Ministry of Sports will hold an activity for children with autism

Santo Domingo, DN-The Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), will hold a recreational meeting this Friday, May 12

for the community with disabilities, especially for children who were born with the condition of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

It will take place at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center of the National District, starting at 9:00 in the morning, announced the Vice Minister of Leisure Sports, Kennedy Vargas, and the director of Sports for All, immortal of the Pavilion of Fame, Evaristo Perez.

Both officials highlighted the support offered by the Ministry of Sports in the management of Minister Francisco Camacho to families and people with this special condition.

At the same time, they highlighted the commitment of this management to work for the inclusion of all Dominicans in sports and recreation.

“What satisfaction we are taking, working with the issue of autism. We are not going to get tired, because we have a commitment to society so that it assumes the inclusion of autistic children,” Pérez said during a press conference on Tuesday, in which details of the activity on Friday, April 12, were released. Pérez applauded and congratulated the Senate of the Republic, which approved in two consecutive readings the bill for care, inclusion and protection for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Vice Minister Vargas, on his side, stated that Miderec supports people with autism, since this is how the path is created for them to adapt and have the best conditions for their integration into society.

“For us it is an honor to support this activity with the consent of Minister Camacho. We are doing more than we can because we know the needs of families that have a member with autism,” said Vargas.

Vargas invited all those who make up the sports community to wear a blue item of clothing this Friday for the great day that seeks to raise awareness about ASD.

In this meeting with the media, Aurora Reyes, in charge of Adapted Sports, also participated, who reiterated the effort of Miderec to give participation to people with autistic condition.

“It is a duty to work with society, to integrate it. We are a ministry that integrates, that will continue to work with the whole of society, with all families that have a member with a disability,” said the official.

While Cristiana Mena, president of the Familias Unidas Foundation and Josefina Ortega, representative of the Café de Herrera Psychopedagogical Center, thanked the sports institution for its support in promoting autism awareness.
