Ligue 1: Angers dismisses Ilyes Chetti, sentenced for sexual assault

A catastrophic season, until the end. Already certain of being relegated to Ligue 2 after failing sportingly, Angers, Ligue 1’s red lantern, continues to be caught up in extra-sporting affairs. The club announced on Tuesday the dismissal of Ilyes Chetti (28), the left-back sentenced on April 6 to four months in prison suspended for acts of sexual assault committed on December 4 in an Anjou nightclub.

He had been suspended the same day by the club, pending a decision against him. It arrived in the form of a press release on Tuesday. « Angers SCO informs of the dismissal of the player Mr. Ilyes Chetti taking into account the facts alleged and recognized by the latter »is it written.

If the story between the two parties ends on the ground, it continues however behind the scenes. Angers has indeed been deprived of recruitment by FIFA (the International Federation) for the next two transfer windows due to irregularities in the transfer of Chetti last summer. Originally, it was a dispute between the Algerian defender and his former club, Espérance Tunis. Angers has appealed and hopes that the latter will be suspensive in order to be able to recruit in the off-season.

As a reminder, the Ilyes Chetti affair led to another when his coach Abdel Bouhazama, during a pre-match chat in Montpellier at the beginning of March, declared to his players: “It’s not bad, we’ve all already touched girls. This had provoked a lively controversy which had led to the resignation of Bouhazama.
