Laura Volo and Zuleima Falcón each achieve medals in the Spanish University Judo Championship

He judo Gran Canaria continues to be in luck. Six representatives of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria participated in the Spanish University Judo Championship held in one of the Spanish university cities par excellence, Salamanca. Laura Volo and Zuleima Falcón got the gold and bronze medals respectivelyin their categories. Jorge Hernández attended as coach and Jesús Brito, as head of the delegation.

Laura Volo Machín in the -78kg category, added a new medal to her record by achieving the gold that crowns her as the Spanish university champion, in what has been her first participation representing the ULPGC, where the Gran Canaria woman is studying her first year of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.

Another of the representatives of the Gran Canaria expedition, Zuleima Falconalso a student of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, in -48 Kg, managed to get the bronze medal after beating of Ippon en Ne-Waza in the consolation final, this being the third consecutive medal that he has achieved in the national university.

As for the four remaining members of the ULPGC team, they had a meritorious performance, although without the reward of metals.

Getsemani Almenara (+78kg), student of the Primary Education Degree, finished in fifth position.

Carlos D. Gutierrezstudent of the Security and Risk Control Degree (-73kg), closed his participation with a seventh place.

Finally, Jose Gabriel Espinostudent of the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (-66kg) and Daniel Poncestudent of the Computer Engineering Degree (-100kg), they didn’t make it past the first round.
