Ja Morant missed out on $39 million

A selection in an All-NBA Team is already a great reward in itself, but the check that goes with it counts at least as much. Jaylen Brown, for example, will be eligible for a five-year, $290 million contract extension after receiving this honor (down from $165.2 million/4 years prior). I Moranthe missed out on $39 million because of his non-selection.

The Grizzlies point guard received 44 points from voters, the highest total for an outside outside of the lucky six. However, it is far from the 144 units of De’Aaron Fox, which he would have needed to integrate the third team and upgrade his contract. Because the salary of Morant, who signed a rookie extension in July 2022, depended on this.

A third of players selected to All-NBA Teams would not have been eligible in 2024

When he accepted the offer from Memphis, Ja Morant knew he would get at least $194 million over five years. But with an MVP, Defenseman of the Year or All-NBA Team title this year, that amount would have risen to $233 million. A colossal increase, of which he will therefore not see the color.

Next season, for the first salary of his new deal, he will thus receive 33.5 million, knowing that it could have been 40. However, this will not prevent him from seeking an XXL extension at the end of this contract, which will expire in 2028.
