Isaiah Piñeiro returns to the court after almost a year of inactivity and leaves a good impression

After spending almost a year without stepping on a court in an official match, forward Isaiah Piñeiro returned to action Friday in his debut this season with the Pirates and left a good impression in Quebradillas’ victory over the Capitanes de Arecibo in the continuation of the 2023 National Superior Basketball (BSN) campaign.

In June of last year, Piñeiro suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in one knee and underwent surgery. And after a long period of rehabilitation, at least, in his first game he proved to be healthy and ready to contribute immediately.

He played 18 minutes and totaled 15 points with three rebounds and two assists. He shot 4-of-6 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He was key in the final part of the game for the privateers to come out on top 82-76, after being down 18 points in the first half.

This performance by Piñeiro is also good news for the National Team. If he can show in the remainder of the season that he can play at a high level, Piñeiro should be seeded in the team’s squad for the FIBA World Cup next August.
