Investor plan rejected! Is the Bundesliga breaking up now? | Sports

The fans are looking forward to the weekend with the championship final, with thrillers about promotion and relegation. It could be one of the last times that the 36 clubs in the 1st and 2nd divisions play together under one roof.

Leipzig wants HIM National player before Bundesliga return?

Break the Bundesliga?

Since Wednesday, the scenario that is already in the drawer has become very likely: the 1st division – led by Bayern and Dortmund – would withdraw from the German Football League (DFL), found its own association and join the DFB.

Trigger for the break: The failed investor entry into the DFL!

In a secret ballot (requested by Bochum) the necessary two-thirds majority was missed!

► 20 clubs said yes

► 11 were against

► 5 abstained

DFL Managing Director Axel Hellmann (51/Frankfurt): “A defeat for the DFL central marketing.”

Hellmann is now definitely giving up his DFL job on June 30th.

DFL boss Hans-Joachim Watzke (63) deeply disappointed: “Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in particular would have transferred many of our rights to the DFL central marketing in order to strengthen solidarity. We gave the league an outstretched arm, we definitely should have made the biggest contribution and we would have made it. The bigger clubs will certainly think about how things will continue for them. Nobody should come to us with solidarity issues in the near future.”

What was the investor entry about?

For 20 years, the DFL wanted to give up 12.5 percent of its TV revenues and get two billion euros in return. The 36 clubs should get 300 million euros of this at their free disposal.

That was just not enough for the second division clubs!

The rebel leader was FC St. Pauli. Club boss Oke Göttlich (47): “We first have to develop a clear strategy and then we can finance it in a targeted manner in order to achieve our clearly defined goals.”

The 2nd league can probably do that among themselves.

What does a breakup mean?

The 2nd league would get a lot less money. Your TV rights have so far been worth EUR 80 million. Due to compensation payments from the Bundesliga, the 2nd division comes to around 240 million

In the future, the two leagues would negotiate their TV contracts separately (as in England, for example).

Will May 24, 2023 go down in history? As the beginning of the end of the joint professional football umbrella?
