INEFI brings together schools and colleges from the DN in a festival that honors the culture of sports – Diario Social RD

The event is part of a strategic plan to promote the sports values ​​of integrity, effort, ethics, union and justice in Dominican students.

SANTO DOMINGO.- More than 1,500 school-age athletes will participate in the first Intercollegiate Sports Festival in which both public and private institutions of the National District will compete and which will take place at the facilities of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, under the management of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI).

The INEFI Intercollegiate Sports Festival 2023, which will take place on the weekends from May 13 to June 4, seeks to promote among the country’s students the ideals of sports culture, such as integrity, effort, ethics, teamwork and fair competition.

“We are convinced that sport has a positive impact on the lives of students, with contributions to health, well-being and the formation of values. That is why we believe it is important to continue supporting and promoting sports practice in all its forms”, explains Alberto Rodríguez Mella, executive director of INEFI, who thanked the support of the Intercollegiate Sports League, represented by its president Julián Suero.

The event (which unites public schools and private schools for the first time, in harmonious competition and with a view to repeating it in the future) will welcome approximately 3,000 spectators and more than 1,500 school-age athletes, who will compete over four weekends, in the disciplines: basketball, 3×3 basketball, volleyball, chess, soccer, athletics and virtual sports or “eSports”.

During the event’s press conference, held in the Volleyball Development Center hall, it was reported that five high-level athletes will be the sponsors of the different sports disciplines. They are: Luguelín Santos, Olympic Silver medalist in Athletics; Luis Pie, Olympic Bronze medalist in Taekwondo; the master Braulio Ramírez, glory of Dominican chess; Bethania de la Cruz, star of the volleyball team of the Queens of the Caribbean, as well as María García, Olympic athlete and Judo world medalist.

According to Rodríguez, one of the main objectives of the festival is to encourage sports practice in Dominican school students and the creation of tournaments and sports activities that help promote healthy activities for youth.

The director of INEFI stressed that the Dominican school system has the conditions to offer students the opportunity to be part of quality sporting events, an element that encourages the participation of the family and society.

Similarly, the official said that the resources available to the National District in terms of sports infrastructure are suitable for organizing this type of event, so they should be used in the best way for the benefit of Dominican society.

Young athletes from educational centers will participate in the sports fair: Lux Mundi, Santa Teresa, CAFAM, Ergos Bilingual School, San Judas Tadeo, Babeque, Domínico-Americano, Cervantes, Luis Muñoz Rivera, New Horizons, Santa María, Bartolomé Vega, Politécnico Pan-American Union, Víctor Garrido Puello High School, Santa Rita School, Cristiano Logos, Quisqueya, Santa Clara and the Pan-American High School.
