Two-time Stanley Cup winner Tom Kühnhackl returns to his home country after 13 years in North America and Sweden. The 31-year-old moves to the Mannheimer Adler.

The son of the idol Erich Kühnhackl signed a three-year contract.

Sports manager Jan-Axel Alavaara: “Tom is a model professional”

“When a player like Tom comes onto the market, you don’t have to think long,” said Mannheim’s sports manager Jan-Axel Alavaara: “Tom is a model professional who has worked very hard for his success. Because of his character, he fits perfectly into our team . He also knows exactly what needs to be done to be successful.”

Kühnhackl won the championship title in the North American professional league NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017. In the last two seasons he was under contract in Sweden with Skelleftea AIK.

Kühnhackl set himself high goals with Mannheim, which failed in the DEL semi-finals last season: “I want to help the team in all areas. With a team and organization like this, the title should always be the goal.”
