HYL Baseball Academy denounces alleged scam by father of talented prospect

Santo Domingo, RD.- The board of HYL Baseball Academy, located in the Guerra municipality, in Santo Domingo, denounced that the organization was allegedly defrauded by the father of a sought-after prospect whom they had developed for a while and with whom they had a preliminary agreement.

Harold Diplán, co-owner of HYL, explained that for nearly two years the academy put all its resources and time into the young Short Stop player, Diego Frontado, whose father Andrés Frontado took the country, without warning, to his native Venezuela. , a few days after he was seen by the directors of a Major League team, who had been interested for some time.

“After tireless work from sunrise to sunset, looking for the prospect to reach a signature and achieve, within a short time, the dream of every player, to reach the Major Leagues, they disappeared as if by magic and they didn’t even answer our calls. as was customary. Later we found out from another person that they had gone to Venezuela, after we invested so much time and resources in developing their physique, their skills, speed, strength, and that we even gave their father $30,000, in addition to shelter and support. both of them all that time,” he deplored.

Diplán highlighted that Diego Frontado was going to be seen in a try-out in June 2022 by directors of the Milwaukee Brewers who came to the country, a team that followed up on the prospect who is now 13 years old, and a week before this disappears.

“We found out later that he is in an academy in his country, and coincidentally it is with the same team that now has a pre-agreement there for US1.6 million,” he said.

Meanwhile, the co-owner of HYL, Luis Batista, by showing evidence of the facts with photographs and videos of the process, points out that, for more than a year, they gave the player shelter in a house, the father was installed in a separate apartment with all the expenses of maintaining them both, especially food, studies in a school and in English, they took him to activities and presented him on stages and hotels. “We treat them like family. We take the prospect to a higher level with display, publicity, etc,” he added.

Batista points out that they even had to invest in the academy with a new complex, just because of the hopes with the investment in the player whom they describe as special, with real expectations of great worth, a phenomenon due to his talent, since he practically has the five tools , in addition to his intelligence in the game.

“We dedicated all our time to his preparation, developing his defense, his arm, his athleticism and power, and even his speed, which we managed to do up to that point in 6.5 seconds in 60 yards,” he stressed.

Diplan adds that when they managed to communicate they even used blackmail that the child’s paternal grandmother was sick with cancer and that is why they left.

“The difficult thing is that at that time other teams were interested in the player at the same time and we couldn’t give them a simple explanation that he had left the country, leaving us up in the air. We are left in a bad position as an organization, and with many economic and moral losses,” he said.

Both professional prospect developers explain that they report “fraud” so that this type of case does not continue to happen, as it has happened before with others like them, but they are silent out of fear.

The H and L Baseball Academy has developed and achieved the signing of prospects with Major League teams such as the most recent case of Welbyn Francisca, with the Cleveland Guardians for US$1,450,000; José Rodríguez with Minnesota Twins; Nathanael Rodriguez of Tampa and others.
