Goal of the Month April 2023: Skarkes Hammer is Goal of the Month

Tim Skarke from FC Schalke 04 wins April’s goal of the month. His solo run with a whopping finish under the bar gets over 70,000 votes.

The year 2023 is going really well for Schalke up to this point in the goal of the month. After Marius Bülter’s fantastic hack goal in February, Skarke is already the second player in the “Royal Blues” to be awarded the coveted gold medal at the sports show this year.

And the goal from the midfielder on loan from Union Berlin is not only particularly spectacular, but also particularly important. Because Skarke gives Schalke a 1-0 lead against Hertha BSC and thus scores the first point in the important 5-2 win against their direct competitor in the relegation battle.

Strong at the start with a full finish

Team colleague Marcel Kamminski plays the ball right into Skarke’s run with a nice lob just behind the center line. The fast-paced midfielder grabs the ball with his leg stretched out and marches towards the Berlin 16s with a strong start. On the way to the goal, Skarke makes the confused Hertha defense look bad and pulls from the left-hand position just before the edge of the penalty area. The ball hits the crossbar behind the hopeless Berlin goalkeeper Oliver Christensen and then lands in the left corner of the goal.

The 30th TdM for Schalke

Skarke’s goal is the 30th goal of the month by a Schalke player since the competition began in 1971. The 04ers are fifth in the all-time table. The legendary Reinhard “Stan” Libuda scored the first goal of the month for the “Royal Blues” in August 1971
