German medal hopes miss the World Cup

Without the medal contenders Eduard Trippel and Anna-Maria Wagner, the team of the German Judo Federation will start the upcoming World Championships in Doha (May 7th to 14th).

Trippel, who won silver in the up to 90 kg class at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo and bronze with the mixed team in Japan and at the 2022 World Championships in Tashkent, had to cancel his participation with a knee injury.

The 26-year-old Wagner, a two-time bronze medalist at the last summer games, cannot compete because of a shoulder injury. The hopes of the German team are resting on Katharina Menz, among others.

At the 2022 World Championships, the 32-year-old was the only German with silver in the up to 48 kg class to secure an individual medal.
