American League: Toronto Blue Jays are swept away at Fenway Park

BOSTON — Masataka Yoshida and Rafael Devers homered as the Boston Red Sox completed a sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, this time winning 11-5.

Yoshida leads Major League Baseball with 14 straight hits.

“He’s quite a hitter,” said Justin Turner of the Sox. And he knows how to prepare. It’s a very good combination. It’s ‘fun’ to hit after him and see him use the whole court.”

Devers dominates the American with 11 long balls.

Undefeated for six games, the Red Sox have dislodged the Blue Jays from third place in the East Division of the American.

Boston hadn’t swept a four-game series against Toronto since 2002.

“It was a great home stay,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. We play good baseball.”

Devers drove in four runs, one more than Yoshida.

Brayan Bello (1-1) allowed four runs and six hits in five innings, striking out five batters.

On the Jays side, Vladimir Guerrero hit a solo home run and a one-run double.

The Toronto club lost a fifth consecutive match.

Yoshida hit his sixth homer of the season in the first inning, beating Kevin Gausman (2-3).

The crowd favorites added five runs in the second, where Devers punctuated the push with a two-run double.

“We have to tip our hats to them,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. They’re working full throttle on offense.”

Gausman was chased after one out in the fourth, having given up eight runs and 10 hits. His average went from 2.33 to 3.86.

The Jays will visit the Pirates from Friday to Sunday.

The Red Sox will play their next matches on the road, against the Phillies and the Braves.
