French Olympic Committee: President Brigitte Henriques resigns

Brigitte Henriques was weakened, she ended up resigning. The president of the CNOSF (French National Olympic and Sports Committee) announced that she would leave her post this Thursday morning during a general meeting at the Maison du Sport Français, announcing a press release from the body. “In her introductory remarks, Brigitte Henriques, first woman president of the CNOSF, explained to the members of the general assembly the reasons for her decision”, specifies the text.

It is Astrid Guyart, secretary general of the CNOSF, who will assume the presidency during the transition period. It will be responsible for organizing a Board of Directors to elect “a President from among its members within the next three months, in accordance with the statutory provisions of the institution”, explains the press release.

According to our information, Brigitte Henriques was convinced this Thursday morning, before the GA that it was the only solution, after final discussions. The resignation will be effective as of June 29.

“There is no winner today”

The Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, reacted: “This resignation is the decision of Brigitte Henriques. I take note of it, and I respect it. At the end of a period that will have been particularly trying for the institution and its main players, I know how great Brigitte’s pain is. She is a woman of conviction, a committed, passionate, courageous woman. She will forever remain the first president in the history of the CNOSF and I salute her long-established action in the service of French sport. »

She continues: “There is no winner today. But there can be a victory, that of the ethical and democratic jump of the CNOSF, which must now come together, bounce back with the institutional and democratic path that it will choose during this GA in accordance with its statutes, while focusing its teams and all stakeholders on the preparation and successful delivery of the Games, which are our primary objective. As of Tuesday evening, I will bring together the CNOSF executive office at the Ministry to take stock, at the end of this GA, of the next steps and support it in this transition phase, while respecting the autonomy of the sports movement and with determination and serenity. I have confidence in the resilience of French sport, and am more than ever by its side.

For his part, the President of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games Tony Estanguet wanted to “thank and sincerely salute Brigitte Henriques for her commitment to the service of French sport”. “During the past two years, she has been constantly alongside Paris 2024 to promote the role of the sports movement within all of our programs,” he added. Today, one year from the Games, I appeal to collective responsibility. Rediscovering a climate of calm and stability is urgently needed so that the sports movement is at the heart of the success of the Games. »
