First new signing fixed: Freiburg’s Philipp Treu is moving to FC St. Pauli

FC St. Pauli has presented its first new signing for the coming season. Right-back Philipp Treu joins the Kiezkickers from SC Freiburg II in the 3rd division. The second division team announced this on Wednesday, as always, without naming a contract term. Since the 22-year-old’s working paper expires at the end of the season, the captain of the second representation is moving to Millerntor on a free transfer.

Market value of Philipp Treu

“With Philipp Treu, we were able to win a player for FC St. Pauli who made his mark at a young age with a top team in the 3rd division and still has great potential for development,” said FCSP sports director Andreas Bornemann. Coach Fabian Hürzeler added: “Philipp Treu has already taken on a lot of responsibility as captain at SC Freiburg II and has proven his footballing quality. I’m happy to have another option in the squad for our defense and I’m looking forward to working together.”

Treu, who was also trained at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and RB Leipzig in addition to the Breisgauers, explained his move: “FC St. Pauli plays challenging football and relies on players who want to develop further. I’m looking forward to taking the next step with an ambitious second division team – and of course to the atmosphere at Millerntor.”
