Indonesian men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto are reluctant to find excuses after falling in the early rounds Malaysia Masters 2023.
As defending champions, Fajar/Rian was defeated by South Korean pair Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae in the round of 32 of Malaysia Masters 2023, Tuesday (23/5) in two straight games 16-21, 19-21.
“We did not have time to try out the playing field because we only arrived yesterday afternoon, but that is not the reason for this defeat,” said Fajar in an official statement.
Fajar emphasized that he would not be under pressure as the reigning champion of the BWF Super 500 event. According to him, being late in adapting is the main factor in the difficulty of turning things around when your opponent has the upper hand.
“In the first game our movements were less explosive, in the second game we tried to make it more enjoyable but still less controlled,” said Fajar.
The same thing was conveyed by Rian. According to him, the opponent managed to implement the strategy faster than himself and Fajar.
“Our start was too slow while the opponent was already in and the strategy has been in from the start so they are very comfortable controlling the game,” said Rian.
There is disappointment felt by Rian because he did not get maximum results in the event which is included in the point tally towards the 2023 Olympics. Nevertheless, he will try to get up in other tournaments in order to keep his hopes up for the world sporting event.
“Definitely disappointed with this result let alone already entered Race to Olympic. But we still want to try our best. There are still many tournaments and we want to enjoy every game more,” said Rian.
