Fabio Jakobsen thunders to victory in rain-soaked 2nd stage in Hungary, Vito Braet third | Tour of Hungary 2023

Flash! There was only one man in the picture in the Tour of Hungary today: Fabio Jakobsen

In a rain-out battle of attrition, the sprinter teams controlled a harmless early breakaway, after which every renowned fast man got his own sprint train in front of him in the closing kilometers.

That of Team DSM turned out to be the strongest at the end and the Dutchman Casper van Uden was the first to sprint, but from the background an impressive Jakobsen flashed to his third victory of the season.

The German Phil Bauhaus and our 22-year-old compatriot Vito Braet were allowed to take the stage. Thibau Nys sprinted to sixth place, the Australian Caleb Ewan came seventh.

In the general classification, Jakobsen takes over the lead from the Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen, the winner of the opening stage.

Today, the stage was again shaken by a massive crash, but there is no news yet about major victims (for now).

On Wednesday, the run-up to the sprint was also startled by a crash by Colombian Egan Bernal, but the former Tour winner was able to start again the next day.

Unlike his Australian teammate Luke Plapp, who was the victim of a mild concussion.
