Tomorrow begins the final table of the second Open 500 of the season, a type of tournament that replaces challenger tournamentswith the difference that these Open have no ranking restriction. Despite the absence of this restriction, a large part of the first couples in the ranking will not be in Alicante, a city that used to host Open category tournaments and which, this year, has been relegated to an Open 500.

The central court will be installed in the Alicante Technification Centerwhere the tracks 2 and 3. He club tournament official is Blupadel.

Men’s preliminary phase of the WPT Alicante Open 500

On Monday the men’s draw was completed with five couples from the previous phase.

The first couple to get the ticket from the previous one was the one from Arnau Ayats and Fran Guerrerowho won by 6-4 6-2 a Emilio Sánchez Chamero and Aitor García Bassas.

In the next turn of the day, Diego Gil and Ignacio Sager managed to access the final table by winning by 6-1 7-6 a Martin Andorino and Pepe Aliaga.

Íñigo Jofre and Luis Hernández will be in the final draw after beating Gullermo Collado and Fran Jurado by a marker of 6-2 3-6 6-3.

Alvaro Cepero and Mario Huete completed the final draw by winning in three sets, 4-6 7-6(4) 6-4 a David Gala and Daniel Santigosa.

Despite falling in this last round of qualifying, David Gala and Daniel Santigosa they will be in the final draw as a couple Lucky Loser by Last minute loss of Toni Bueno and a Marc Quílez who tested positive for COVID.

In the men’s final draw none of the first eight couples in the ranking will be there. As happened in the first Open 500 of the season in Reus, although no ranking restrictionthe main pairings dropped out of the tournament.

The first eight couples will not be there but it will be Coqui Nietowho forms the number 8 couple together with Pablo Lima, although in Alicante he will play with Miguel Semmler.

The first seeds of this tournament, and exempt from playing the first round of the draw, are Maxi Sánchez and Lucas Campagnolo as #1, Jon Sanz and Javi Garrido like #2, Lucho Capra and Alex Arroyo as nº3 and, finally, Pincho Fernández and José Antonio García Diestro like #4.

In the female box The first two couples in the ranking will not be there. The nº1, Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría, and the nº2, Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay, will take a one-week truce in their particular fight to end the year at the top of the ranking.

Removing these casualties, the other couples will be in Alicante, a tournament in which they will start as a number 1 couple Delphi Brea and Bea Gonzalezlike #2 Marta Ortega and Sofia Araújolike #3 Lucia Sainz and Aranza Osoro and, as nº4, Patty Llaguno and Virginia Riera. All these couples will start their participation in the round of 16.

As we said, this Tuesday the first of the two days of the round of 32 will be played in the men’s draw, while in the women’s the last round of the previous one will be played.
