Pascha is a 12-story, 9,000 m² brothel located in Cologne, Germany. With around 120 prostitutes, more than 80 support staff and up to 1,000 clients a day, it is considered the largest brothel in Europe.
The brothel opened in January 1972 on Hornstraße, under the name “Eros Center”. It was the first high-rise brothel in Europe. The city of Cologne wanted to eliminate the Kleine Brinkgasse red-light district in the city center and granted a license to build the new brothel on municipally owned land on the outskirts of the city. The prostitutes filed a lawsuit against the closure, which they ultimately lost. In 1995, the owner of the Eros Center changed after the foreclosure and the new name “Pascha” was introduced.4 Later they added houses with the same name in Salzburg, Munich and Linz.
The cheap alternative to hotels
Now its name has once again gone around the world by becoming the establishment that will host English fans at the 2024 Euro Cup in an attempt to escape the high prices of hotels.
A unique building that hides a curious story inside: it is a hideout for “Chinese spies.” Supporters of Southgate’s team, who were looking for accommodation during the tournament in Germany, booked 120 rooms in the brothel but have just received a strange warning from Germany.
Apparently, a Chinese woman is the current owner of the building in Cologne and the ninth floor is reserved for spies. This has raised concerns that fans of the English team may find themselves in compromising situations due to the presence of secret agents.
German newspaper Bild saw messages indicating that lawyers investigated for helping wealthy Chinese clients obtain citizenship were linked to a brothel owner. He bought the store for more than 10 million in 2021 after going bankrupt due to the coronavirus. Stefan Bizanz, a German security expert, reveals that they are aware of how these Chinese spies operate in their country. “A British fan is more likely to be a victim than an ordinary citizen who knows the area,” he warns.
Gareth Southgate’s side take on Slovenia in Cologne on Tuesday 25 June. Football fans booked rooms at the brothel after realizing it was much cheaper to spend the night than in a hotel.
The brothel itself has reacted to this information by offering a “discount for spies.” A spokesperson for the establishment said: “The English fans always have a good time with us and our waiters are always grateful. We look forward to having them visit us in Cologne.”
