Dani Calvo, Real Oviedo centre-back: “We are going to beat Sporting”

Dani Calvo, Real Oviedo centre-back, went through a press conference to assess this Saturday’s derby against Sporting and the continuity of Álvaro Cervera.

Fifth consecutive victory: “We are in a sensational moment, although the derby is a very difficult match. We are going into it with great enthusiasm, motivated and at a very good moment. We are going to beat Sporting”.

The play-off, far. “We know that the play-off places are far away, but finishing the season winning everything that remains is a nice objective. It would be to end a season that started regularly in a very remarkable way, so that, next year, give continuity to that dynamics. If the sensations are good at the end you can start off on the right foot”.

Your physical state. “I feel great. Last week I missed a couple of practices as a precaution, but now I’m great.”

Play at El Molinón. “It’s very nice to play at El Molinón, because they squeezed us is one more motivation, last year’s game motivated me much more.”

The renovation of Álvaro Cervera:It is very good to give continuity to Cervera, it is a success and something positive. The preseason is to get to know each other and sometimes it’s hard to start, so giving that continuity is very good to start plugged in. It’s an important step for the project.”

Your partner with Oier Luengo: “He’s a very solvent centre-back. In the preseason he already played very good games. I’m very happy for him, because it’s difficult to be in the second row and, when you come out, play so well. It’s an honor for me to play with him.”

The absence of Costs: “It’s a shame. He’s already lost 3 of the last 4 derbies. It’s a unique match to play, I’ve never experienced anything like it. Costas is annoyed because he didn’t want to miss it. It’s a shame.”

Differences between playing the derby at home and away: “By playing at Tartiere you have that push from your fans that makes you go up and drown out your opponent. This derby will follow the line of the games we play away from home. Let few things happen and we’ll wait for our opportunity”.

Start off on the right foot: “Going out focused is key. If you go in badly you can quickly get down below and that is a significant drag. Last year we played a very complete game”.

The support of the fans. “We are very grateful. We know the difficulties they have to attend and they never let us down. All season they have been faultless despite the difficulties. We hope to give them a victory at El Molinón.”
