“Cristina gave me back my enthusiasm for basketball”

Alejandra Sánchez Davila (San Javier, Murcia, 2002) arrived at Celta Zorka Recalvi in January, on loan from Liga 1 Hozono Global Jairis, to reinforce the team’s outside game, diminished since the beginning of the season due to Laura Prats’ injury . The Murcian escort had to make a double effort to physically and tactically fit in with the team from Vigo, but this work with the coaching staff allowed him to provide quality minutes in the rotation in the last games of the season and, especially, in the ‘final’ four’ last weekend, in which he averaged 7.3 points per game. Alejandra was at the visit yesterday to Atlantic and she was happy and very grateful both to her teammates and to her coach, Cristina Cantero, of whom she assures that “she gave me back my enthusiasm for basketball.”

Are you happy to have come to Vigo in the middle of the season?

I was talking about it now with my colleagues. It has been a very intense three months. It is true that I came at a bad time and they have always made me grow and to believe in me, to believe that I could help them. From the beginning, Cris (Cantero) already told me that he was here to add and at the end of the last game he said a few words to me that were something like that of course he had added and of course it had been worth it to be in the team these last three months. And I am super happy and super grateful for everything.

And what if he contributed in the ‘final four’: 14 points in the semifinal, with 4 of 5 in triples, and another 8 in the final, with 2 of 4 in three-point baskets. Because, in addition, the two matches were decided from the outside launch in attack.

Yes Yes. In addition, last year I had experienced something similar (the promotion with Jairis), I knew how things could happen throughout the game and I was calm. I knew that my work in these three months was quite good and then you also have to be lucky that things turn out well for you. But if you believe, it all comes out and I’m so glad I helped out with those 3s.

From the outside it seems that the adaptation to the team was quite fast despite the lateness of the season, how did you experience that process?

My colleagues have a lot of merit because since the first day they have been inviting me to their homes. The first days, when I didn’t have anything to eat in the fridge, they helped me, they accompanied me to do the shopping… From day one they have been my companions and my friends and that has helped me a lot to enter into the dynamics of the group. It is true that Cris wanted a Spanish player to help and she believed that I could be a great part of this team. And I am super grateful to the coach for having trusted me: Cristina gave me back my enthusiasm for basketball.

Do you already know your destination for the next season? Do you plan to return to your club?

Nothing is closed yet. It is true that I still have a cushion, because I have a loan in Murcia and I could perfectly play in the Women’s League 1 at Hozono Global Jairis, but you never know if you want to return home or play abroad again. Now summer is here, it’s time to enjoy and whatever has to be negotiated for next year. no
