To celebrate his 30e anniversary, in a sold-out derby, the Impact won 2-0 against Toronto FC, Saturday night at Saputo Stadium. A second victory in five days against their rival and a sixth consecutive win in all competitions.
The clichés couldn’t be truer. The Torontonians arrived wanting to play the spoilsports, but they were ultimately scuttled. A red card was picked up by Toronto with just over 30 minutes to go due to a smart call. Their lack of hard work then came to haunt them.
After a first half where the visitors had the upper hand, Lassi Lappalainen and Chinonso Offor scored in the second half to allow Montreal to triumph. The Bleu-blanc-noir supporters not only buried the Neapolitan contingent present, but they even took the opportunity to pay the head of the Italian duo of TFC in Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne.
The Torontonians showed more fighting spirit after the meeting, where there was rififi between the two clans.
