The memories I made here taught me a lot about myself on the pitch but also helped me a lot to find out what I really love about football. I’ve always stayed true to myself here, learning and improving, and I will never forget the love I received from the fans and my teammates over these seven years. I had the chance to play with some amazing players! These goodbyes are obviously the hardest of my career given the thrill I felt playing at this beautiful stadium. The 29-year-old will not extend his expiring contract. Guerreiro was said to have been said goodbye behind the scenes on Saturday by sports director Sebastian Kehl, managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke and coach Edin Terzic. The flexible BVB professional is said to have been presented with a performance-related offer that included a similar salary as before. The black and yellow are said to have offered Guerreiro 5.5 million to 6 million euros gross per year.
Guerreiro came to BVB from FC Lorient in 2016 for €12 million, for which he contributed 40 goals and 50 assists in a total of 224 games. After a boost in performance, the Portuguese is the best assist provider in Europe’s top five leagues in 2023, with ten assists in 15 games.
