Puerto Rico and Cuba will have a series of six friendly games as part of the preparation for the first stage of the Women’s Baseball World Cup of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), scheduled for September of the year.
Bears, Cowboys and Athletics take wins Monday at BSN
This series is organized by the Cuban Baseball Federation and the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation (FBPR). The Women’s National Team, led by Carlos Ferrer, will travel to Havana this Friday morning.
“The Puerto Rican team goes to Cuba with a lot of energy and many hours of training. It will allow us to have additional preparation and we will compete with a power like Cuba. We hope to have a good demonstration”, expressed Ferrer.
The schedule of the Puerto Rican team in Cuba will begin with a practice session this Saturday at 10:00 am at the Santiago “Changa” Mederos Stadium in Havana. The games will be from May 15 to 20 at the Santiago “Changa” Mederos and Latinoamericano stadiums, all starting at 2:00 p.m.
Since February of this year, Las Nuestras have participated in the Coliceba Youth League, with 16 games against male baseball prospects up to 19 years old. The idea was part of an agreement between the FBPR and the Confederation of the Central Amateur Baseball League (Coliceba).
The World Cup will be from September 13 to 17 in the city of Miyoshi in Japan. Puerto Rico will play in group B together with the teams of Japan, Venezuela, Cuba and France. There remains a space to be defined on the Asian continent.
Las Nuestras reached second position in the 2022 Premundial tournament in Venezuela and qualified for the World Cup. In the World ranking, the women’s National Baseball Team occupies the ninth position.
